Legal Protections for Fashion Brands & Designs
with Dan Nabel, Esq.

Program:

Fashion today is omnipresent and hyper-dynamic.  To succeed in the fast-paced fashion industry, insiders should have a basic understanding of the key intellectual property laws that affect both design and brand protection. Join CLA and representatives from the USC Intellectual Property and Technology Law Clinic for an overview of how intellectual property laws, including trademark, patent and copyright, intersect with the fashion world and what these laws mean for you and your fashion business.

Presenters:

The USC Intellectual Property and Technology Law Clinic (IPTLC) provides basic intellectual property legal assistance to Los Angeles based artists, designers, film-makers, musicians, small businesses, non-profit organizations, innovators, independent game-makers and others who cannot afford to pay market rates for legal services. The IPTLC gives students hands-on experience handling legal issues at the intersection of intellectual property law and technology while simultaneously enabling creative projects in the Los Angeles area to flourish.

Dan D. Nabel, Esq. directs the IPTLC.  Prior to joining USC’s faculty, Professor Nabel practiced law at Greenberg Glusker Fields Claman & Machtinger, LLP in Century City, where he successfully litigated numerous high-profile cases and advised clients on copyright, fair use, trademark, and right of publicity issues, among many others.  Professor Nabel will be joined in this presentation by his legal interns and USC law students, Jonathan Levinson and Peggy Hsieh.

These workshops are made possible, in part, from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Arts Commission and The City of Los Angeles, Department of Cultural Affairs.  Additional support provided by the California Arts Council
