Rights of Publicity

The interaction between art and reality has become more pronounced in recent years. Authors, screenwriters, and visual artists are often times confronted with the issue of what they can say and what they can’t say about celebrities, political figures, and non-public figures. And when and under what circumstances they can use images and likeness of these people. This workshop will educate the participants on the law regarding these issues and provide guidelines to avoid exposure to liability.

Presenter Maria Gomez Rodriquez- has practiced intellectual property and commercial law in both Europe and California for over 8 years. She founded MGR ArtLaw in 2013, where her practice focuses on art law and technology law. Ms. Gomez Rodriguez works extensively with clients in the art and culture sector.

These workshops are made possible, in part, from the City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture. Additional support provided by the California Arts Council.
