Copyright and Licensing in the Digital Age

This workshop will cover the impact of digital technology on copyright issues in media, including film, television, music, games, books, visual arts, and software.

The workshop will discuss how to obtain clearance and use licenses from third parties to use their content in your projects and the economics of those licensed uses.  

Also covered will be how to authorize third parties to use your content in their projects, controlling the scope of those licensed rights, and analyzing revenue streams from such authorized uses



Mr. Hearn focuses on the business and legal issues involving the intersection of content, media, and technology, including entertainment, internet, copyright, trademark, business start-ups and development, the use of intellectual property in all forms of media, and related media business and artist matters.

Mr. Hearn is a member of the State Bar of California, Intellectual Property Law Section; the American Bar Association, Entertainment and Sports Forum; the California Lawyers for the Arts, where he has been sitting on the Board of Directors from 1976 until today; and the West Coast Songwriters Association, where he has been President of the Board of Directors since 1979.
