Artist Gallery Consignment and Public Art Contracts

with Louis E. Greenwald, Esq.

In this workshop, we will discuss typical provisions in artist/gallery consignment agreements and public art contracts. We will cover common contract clauses, while focusing on ways to avoid pitfalls and common mistakes.  We will also go over strategies for negotiating the best possible deal.  You will learn how to review and analyze artist/gallery consignment agreements and public art contracts, how to make sense of any legalese, and how to make sure you do not sign something you will later regret.

Louis E. Greenwald, a partner at the law firm Choi & Greenwald, practices employment law, contract law, and art law. Over the years, Mr. Greenwald has represented numerous artists, art galleries, art foundries, art appraisers, and museums.  Mr. Greenwald represents clients regarding all facets of art law, including obtaining payment from galleries for artists, litigating claims for the destruction and/or modification of an artist’s art, enforcing rights under the California Resale Royalty Act, and defending galleries against breach of contract claims.  In addition, Mr. Greenwald has drafted, reviewed, and negotiated many purchase/sale agreements regarding works of art and artist/gallery consignment agreements.  Mr. Greenwald also has extensive experience representing artists regarding public art projects, including contract review and negotiations and dispute resolution.
