Geared toward composers, producers, performers, and other established and aspiring music industry professionals, this 'crash course' on music copyright provides an overview of basic terms and concepts, including copyright protections and registration, songwriting collaborations, licensing agreements, and a breakdown of various music publishing income streams (including mechanical royalties, pubic performance income, synchronization fees, digital exploitation, and more). A "must-attend" workshop for anyone interested in protecting and maximizing their musical creations.


Presenter
Jon L.Duman is a San Francisco Bay Area-based attorney whose entertainment law practice emphasizes music business and arts-related intellectual property matters. Jon Duman’s client list includes a diverse array of musicians, performers, producers, managers, music publishers, songwriters and recording artists, including members of such iconic groups as The Commodores, Tony! Toni! Toné!, The Family Stone, Neil Young’s Crazy Horse, E40’s Click and the Bay Area’s Hieroglyphics Imperium. In over 19 years of practice within the entertainment industries, Jon Duman has negotiated favorable deals for his clients with such ubiquitous media brands as Warner Music Group, Sony Entertainment, Universal Music Group/EMI Group, Fox Sports International, Apple, Inc./I-Tunes, Activision, Mattel Toy Corp., and Google Inc., among numerous others. In addition to regularly participating in workshops and panel discussions covering a wide range of entertainment industry topics. Jon Duman also teaches “The Business of Media” at Ex’pression College for the Digital Arts, in Emeryville, California.
