13th Annual Artistic License Awards

May 17, 2020

William Turner Gallery, Santa Monica

2020 Honorees Include:

US Representative Judy Chu, for her leadership in advocating for the copyright protections of those in the creative industries by co-chairing the Congressional Creative Rights Caucus

California State Senator Ben Allen, as chair of the Legislative Joint Committee on the Arts and advocate for arts programs in correctional institutions

Santa Fe Art Colony for their advocacy to protect and preserve the only rent-restricted artist-in-residence complex in Los Angeles

Vijay Gupta, for his work in founding the Street Symphony

Purpose of the Artistic License Awards Artistic license implies so many ideas: freedom of expression, residual rights and royalties, the daring to be different, to make a difference through innovation and service. In 2008, we conceived of the Artistic License Awards to recognize persons and organizations that have mastered their arts (intended in the broadest possible sense) in extraordinary ways for the communities they serve. This year's honorees are role models for innovation and courageous leadership that have inspired so many others to stretch beyond their "comfort zones" and take on the challenges of our times.
