On Your Terms: Managing Your Rights to Keep Your Work Available

AUTHORS:
Be Empowered to Shape Your Own Contracts!

Authors of all kinds are routinely asked to sign contracts that carve up their copyrights and determine where, how, and by whom their works can be published. This panel of copyright attorneys examines some of the ways authors can ensure that these agreements don't end up standing between their work and their audience. Join us and we'll work on demystifying embargoes, licenses, negotiations, rights reversions, and terminations of transfers.

Panelists:
Lila Bailey is a solo attorney in San Francisco specializing in information law and policy. Bailey represents tech companies and start-ups, creative entrepreneurs, and libraries. She is frequently invited to speak on digital copyright issues. She also teaches internet law at Berkeley Law School

Michael Wolfe is the executive director of Authors Alliance, a Berkeley-based nonprofit that provides writers and other creatives with informational resources on common legal and technological problems. Wolfe is a copyright attorney licensed to practice in California.

Brianna Schofield is a teaching fellow in the Samuelson Clinic at UC Berkeley, School of Law. Her research focuses on the intersection of law and technology, particularly as it relates intellectual property. She is the coauthor of two guides that help authors keep their works available to be read.
