PRIVACY POLICY
California Lawyers for the Arts (CLA) provides education, representation and dispute resolution to the creative arts and innovation community throughout California. Our goal is to help the creative arts and innovation community thrive by providing essential services such as a lawyer referral service, alternative dispute resolution services, and events and educational workshops. CLA is directed at individuals over the age of fifteen and any party under that age should consult with a parent or guardian and have them contact CLA on the minor’s behalf.
CLA is dedicated to our members and others who wish to use our services and committed to ensuring the privacy of those who use our services. Our privacy policy is designed to assist you in understanding how we collect and use your information. The privacy policy set forth here refers solely to CLA and not to affiliate organizations or individuals.
When you interact with CLA’s services you may be required to divulge certain information. The information that we collect may include your name and contact information, certain demographic information, certain financial information for screening purposes, information about your case, matter, or invention, and information about other parties involved in your case, matter, or invention.
CLA retains the information mentioned above throughout the course of your interaction with CLA and beyond. The purpose of collecting and retaining this information is both to assist you in executing one of our many services, and also for CLA’s own internal use to improve our services in the future.
Generally, CLA will not disclose the information we collect to unaffiliated third parties without your expressed consent. However, should you use our services you understand and impliedly consent to CLA disclosing certain information to affiliated third parties on the good faith belief that such disclosure is necessary to assist you. For example, under our lawyer referral service it may be necessary to disclose contact information and information about your case to a panel attorney in order to match you with an attorney for representation.
CLA also strives to send email updates to those who provide us with an email address through an event or workshop registration, when you purchase an item, or from your membership information. If you do not wish to receive email updates from CLA you can unsubscribe easily by clicking the “unsubscribe” link contained in email correspondence.
We do not anticipate materially changing our practices in handling personally identifiable information, but if we do we will post the changes on this privacy statement on our website and the changes will be effective immediately upon posting. Once again, your privacy is essential to maintaining the relationship of trust that exists between CLA and the users of our services and is of the utmost importance to us.
