Copyright Fundamentals in the Music Industry
With Daniel Schacht, Esq.

How do I license music for tv and film? How can my song be used on YouTube? Who in the band owns a song? Join Daniel Schacht of Donahue Gallagher Woods for discussion about copyright law in the music business. Topics will include joint authorship, fair use, copyright registration, copyright termination, royalties, and songwriter and producer agreements.

Presenter:
Daniel J. Schacht is an attorney at Donahue Gallagher Woods LLP, specializing in intellectual property, technology, and music law. He handles a variety of copyright, trademark, licensing, employment and general business matters for artists such as Carlos Santana, Journey, and Amon Tobin. He currently serves as co-counsel in Good Morning to You Productions Corp. et al. v. Warner/Chappell Music, Inc., the "Happy Birthday" class action lawsuit described by the New York Times as "a lawsuit for the ages." Before law school, Mr. Schacht worked ten years in the Bay Area music scene as a bassist, sound engineer, studio owner, and producer.
