About the Speakers:
George K. Azar, CPA
My issues surrounding my relationship with money started when I graduated from high school. I decided to take out my first credit card to buy myself a graduation present – an industry-standard camera due to my love for photography. I had been approved for a promotional 6-month 0% interest credit card, with a credit limit well in excess of the purchase of my camera.
Over the course of 13 years, I frequently found myself in a cyclical state of charging up to the maximum of my credit limits then finding some cleaver way of paying them off – telling myself that was the absolute last time I would go into debt! Months later, that cycle would continue – that is, until I reached a breaking point.
Just like any great Taylor Swift song, it started and ended with a romantic fling. After picking up the pieces from that failed fling, I found myself spiraling back into my old ways of loading up my credit cards. I would tell myself things like “I really need this in my moment of grieving” or “this will be the last time, promise”. After racking up enough debt to create a panic attack, I found myself refinancing my condo for the third time to bail myself out. I came to a breaking point and decided that enough was enough – I needed to redefine my relationship with money.
And that is where we are today. Holistic Budget birthed out of my own personal journey. From holistic heaters to self-care initiatives, I was able to identify the hard feelings and emotions that were continuing to propagate this lifestyle of indebtedness. Although not perfect, today I find myself in a much healthier place, as I have been able to face my deepest fears and make better choices that directly affect my finances. This is why I am here – to share with you the tools from my own journey and to help you redefine your relationship with money!
