AN INTRODUCTION TO NONPROFIT FORMATION

Join California Lawyers for the Arts and C. James Diego Gómez of For Purpose Law for a virtual workshop on the basics of non-profit formation.

This virtual workshop is intended to serve as a basic introduction to Non-profit Formation, specifically under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3) as a public charity. This introduction will describe the process in California, but will describe the general process applicable to any other U.S. state.

Some questions this workshop will help answer are; Is starting a non-profit the right path?; The difference between the non-profit and for-profit sector; What is a public charity/501(c)(3) status?; What are the steps for incorporation at the state level?; What are the steps for applying for Federal Tax exemption?; What are the steps for applying for State Tax Exemption?; What is Charitable Solicitation?; and What to do if you want to fundraise/operate in other states outside the state you formed in?
