Protect Your Artistic Creations: Legal 101 with California Lawyers for the Arts
Featuring: Olivia Casellini and Sam Mazzeo of A BETTER Professional Corporation
Our speakers will walk registrants through the fundamentals of art law and deconstruct key legal concepts including equitable contracts, copyright, and infringement. They will also offer helpful tips for self-advocacy.
Protecting your creative work is fundamental to an artist's practice as it can avoid legal issues, ensure proper pay, and promote healthier partnerships and collaborations. Understanding the legal side of an art practice can also help you to spot potential contract red-flags, and take proper action when you think someone is utilizing your work without your permission.
Don't miss this FREE legal workshop! Artists of all disciplines are encouraged to attend!
About our Speakers:
Olivia Casellini
Liv is a Jane of all trades, working on mastering them all. Here are some things she can help you better understand: labor & employment, contracts, copyright, why SPF is important, and how to approach dogs you’ve never met before. There’s an etiquette to that last one, and as a dog mom, she feels very strongly about it. She's also an independently certified HR professional (SHRM-CP).
Sam Mazzeo
Most people like to think of Sam as an approachable renaissance man. Here are some things he can help you better understand: trademark, business formation & securities, contracts, Halloween party planning, how to do a standing backflip, and the proper pronunciation of the word “GIF.” When Sam isn’t providing legal advice and empowering his clients, he’s either outdoors adventuring or working on local policy and social justice initiatives, often through his volunteer position with Business For Good San Diego. Sam also serves on several Boards of Directors, including A Reason to Survive (ARTS), Space4Art, and The Foundation at Hearst Castle. He leads with both heart and smarts.
