An Intro to Online IP for Artists & Creative Professionals

Join CLA and attorney Doria Shahmirzai for a in-person workshop that covers the basics of copyright law for creative artists with an emphasis on how copyright law has evolved in the Internet era.
During the workshop we will cover copyright basics (registration, rights, and infringement), the fair use defense, posting images and music online, sharing media via different Internet outlets, and how copyright law has adjusted (and failed to adjust) in the last twenty years to accommodate the proliferation of online media.
Presenter
Dorisa Shahmirzai the founding attorney of IP Law Click handles entertainment, corporate and IP matters relating to the entertainment industry in areas such as IP licensing, talent deals, corporate entity formation, as well as trademark and copyright issues.
After law school, Dorisa worked at the international law firm of Clifford Chance S.L. in Barcelona, Spain in areas of entertainment and IP law where she handled patent, copyright, trademark disputes, and publishing agreements for talent and television shows.
In addition, she has negotiated on behalf of both artist and company clients, a broad range of music, film, and television deals, including stage rights, recording, distribution, licensing, publishing, music producer, composer, soundtrack album, live performance, and joint venture agreements. She has served as a panel attorney for California Lawyers for the Arts and has conducted client friendly workshops on fundamental of copyrights and advised clients on issues of defamation, rights of privacy and negotiated key deal terms. She also studied at UCLA postgraduate Entertainment Studies program, where in addition to film financing, business and legal affairs in television, and music business, she studied screenwriting. She has externed with Judge James L. Warren, the grandson of Supreme Court Justice Earl Warren at the San Francisco Superior Court.
Dorisa is licensed to practice in California. She completed her legal studies at UC Davis School of Law, and her undergraduate studies in Molecular and Cell Biology with a focus in Neurobiology at UC Berkeley. She has a masters degree in Public Health from Harvard University, School of Public Health where she conducted a qualitative research study of the Massachusetts Newborn Screening Program which mandated screening of newborns for inborn metabolic disorders. She addressed health care and constitutional rights of parents and children impacted by inborn metabolic disorders.
