As 3-D printers are becoming more accessible and affordable to the public, the increasing use and availability of 3-D printers will drastically affect intellectual property protection -- especially in the fashion industry. This innovative technology  presents both benefits and detriments to fashion designers. This panel will address the avenues of  intellectual property protection available to fashion designers, the effect and legal implications of 3-D printing technology regarding intellectual property rights, and the enforcement issues surrounding infringement of intellectual property rights.

Panelists:
Laura Drossman

Laura Drossman counsels clients in the fashion, media, branding, and entertainment industries on intellectual property and corporate law issues.  Her practical and creative approach to solving problems helps her clients thrive in today's competitive marketplace while protecting and securing the the value of their intellectual property. Laura is licensed to practice law in California and New York.  She earned her law degree from Tulane University Law School, and earned a BFA in dramatic writing from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. Prior to private practice, Laura served as a federal law clerk to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New Orleans, Louisiana. 


Rachel Fischbein

Rachel Fischbein is the founder of Law On The Runway. She is a graduate of Santa Clara University School of Law and licensed to practice law in California. Law On The Runway primarily assists fashion and beauty entrepreneurs by helping them with building the foundations of their companies. Ms. Fischbein holds a bachelor's degree in fashion marketing from Woodbury University. She interned at Organic Exchange, a non-profit which promotes organic fibers and sustainable farming within the apparel industry. She also worked in a sales and marketing role for Trumaker, a startup menswear fashion company. Ms. Fischbein is an active member of the San Francisco Fashion and Merchant Alliance, Digitally Chic, and a registered panel attorney for the California Lawyers for the Arts.


Moderator:

Ms. Brodskaya counsels clients in intellectual property law, including IP strategy, portfolio development, trademark, copyright, and related transactions and disputes. Ms. Brodskaya developed significant experience in her previous roles at Louis Vuitton North America, Inc. and Silver Starr Art Studios, an entertainment consultancy, in New York City, in product branding and brand management, trademark and copyright portfolio development, and enforcement of intellectual property rights in the fashion, consumer product, and entertainment industries.
